Rundling Villages...

Dating back to the Early Medieval period, a historic form of circular village, in which homesteads are build wedge-shaped around an oval or round spot with only one single access to the village are called Rundling Villages. This special type of village was a popular form of settlement used by Slavs. Today, the Hanoverian Wendland offers some of the best preserved villages of this type. The typical form of the village is still visible in more than 100 villages across the Wendland.
